Today I would like to unveil a new feature on the site: the NBA MVP Award Tracker. Before I say much more, let me get two disclaimers out of the way:

• The NBA MVP Award Tracker ranks candidates based on a model built using previous voting results. This list does not represent the opinion of this site. Rather, these are the players that the voters are likely to target.
• I am not trying to come up with a formula to pick the MVP Award winner. In my opinion it would be silly to use a single formula as the basis for determining who should win an award.

Got it? Good. Now moving on…

A couple of minor additions to point out:

• On the Player Season Finder, you can now choose "Advanced" as an output type. This will display all of the statistics found in the "Advanced" table found on the player pages.
• A link to the blog has been added to the Quick Index links (the links found just above the "You Are Here" line near the top of the page).

I have been working on a way to extend the Win Shares system to seasons prior to 1973-74 off and on (mostly off) for quite some time. Until last week, though, I had not been able to come up with a satisfactory solution. However, I had an idea last week that produced what I felt were satisfactory results, so today I would like to announce that the Win Shares system has been extended back to the 1951-52 season.

Since BBR first came on the scene a little over five years ago, by far the most requested addition has been player transactions. Well, thanks to the work of the great Pete Palmer — plus an assist from yours truly — we now have player transactions for the entire history of the NBA. These transactions are listed on the player pages, as well as new team and league pages.

FYI, I added a little 2009 NBA Draft preview to the draft section. It lists the teams in the order that they will be selecting, the top pros drafted from each spot, and more. Please check it out and let me know if you have any questions or comments.

In anticipation of the upcoming NBA Draft, I have added a Draft Finder to the site. You can create lists of all of the first overall selections, all players drafted from a specific college that played in the NBA, and much more. Please let me know if you come across any bugs.

A few minutes ago I added expanded standings pages to the leagues section of the site. These pages have two tables. The first table gives W-L records for various categories (by conference, by division, etc.) and the second table presents a team versus team matrix of W-L records. Enjoy!

I know this is a little late, but I finally got around to updating the D-League stats through the 2008-09 season. I haven't added biographical information for new players, but all of the stats should be there. Thanks for your patience.
