I, too, mark my life by these annual rites of passage and you can't convince me that there was a better time in NBA history than the 80's. I would anticipate regular season Lakers/Celtics games as if the fate of the world depended on the outcomes. And when my beloved Lakers squared off against the hated Celtics in the NBA finals (hard to believe it was only thrice), I'm not sure I did any homework during that entire two-week stretch. It's precisely because of how the Lakers responded to the Memorial Day Massacre in '85 that gave me reason to believe that despite their horrific showing against Houston on two occasions in round two this year they could come back. Players are more resilient than fans sometimes give them credit for.

Was very cool when I was a senior in high school, but the novelty has worn off now that we're both ancient and grizzled.

It's cool because there's like a 23-day stretch where LeBron and I are the same age... Next to that guy, it always makes me feel really inferior about everything I haven't accomplished in my life yet.

For instance I can say without having to think that I moved to NYC in 2004 - and I know that for sure because I remember rooting really hard for the TWolves in the WCF and then had no rooting interest at all in the finals (grew up in Maine, and just straight up couldn't stand the Lakers. Grew up a Bulls fan and never got over my distaste for the Bad Boy Pistons).
