Layups: Can “The Book of Basketball” Stop a Bullet?

Bill Simmons' new 700-page tome (and I just got it in the mail today, it's a legit 700 pages, there are no typeface shenanigans going on here) is called "The Book of Basketball", and the amount of work he put into it certainly lives up to the title's lofty aspirations. But for as many trees that had to die to make TBOB happen, is it so thick that it can stop a speeding bullet?

I'll bet you anything the original draft was at LEAST 1500 pages . . .

I'm sure 100 of those pages are dedicated to Larry Bird, and Larry Bird dedications are impervious to small arms.

I thought it was hilarious that the page that it couldn't penetrate was dedicated to the '86 Celtics. You're going to have to bring a lot more stopping power than some dinky 9mm to put a dent in Jerry Sichting, much less Bird, McHale, Parish, and DJ.

Last year simmons picked the Cavs to win it all. This year he says they are wildly overrated. 2 years ago he said they wouldn't make the playoffs. He's been wrong every year about them.
