    This just in: entire ESPN writing staff has declared Derrick Rose the MVP! Before any votes have been cast! (They must've learned how to count from Wisconsin Repubs).

    Pray to god they don't see this 7.22, otherwise it'll be, "see, even those useless statheads who use logic and numbers instead of GUTS and HEART to make decisions . . ."

    P Middy, when they say "stats don't matter", they actually mean "stats don't matter...if they don't support my preconceived argument".

    Word to that. I'd like to see the term "value" taken literally. What would happen if you we took (all season totals here):

    points+rebounds+assists+blocks+steals-TO-(FTA-FTM)/dollars paid

    Who would come out on top?

    @4 - Not sure, but I believe Rose, Love, and Griffin would be way up the list since they are on rookie pay scale.

    @4 I am wondering why wins is not a factor in your calculation? Is that not something you believe players can produce?

    We already have win based stats, look at win shares, EWA, WARP, whatever.

    While not perfect they are much better then arbitrarily assigning credit for wins, like some fools out there enjoy doing.

    #2 The 7.22 just shows how much they rely on defense to be an elite team. So it actually hurts the Rose lovers I would say.

    #6 - win share. eff. Sure. Whatever you want to use. The idea is mostly to add up stats and divide by salary. There's no deep bball ideology involved here.

    #8 - Rose backers would be hard pressed to admit it. I know what the exact effect is. It starts to overcome me when I watch him too. He is so fast, explosive, athletic, and has the jordan-like ability to hang in mid air and change shot attempts and still hit them. He's, despite Blake Griffin's dunk repertoire and LeBron's LeBroness, easily the most amazing player this season. It's hard to watch him abuse Rondo and not think he's the greatest.

    All that said, I still think he's third on my list after LeBron and Dwight in that order.

    Neil, is there any way you can do this for the Nuggets just accounting for their post-Carmelo games? I'm curious how they would rank and how their defense stacks up.
