(last updated on October 13, 2025)
The Miami Heat may not be one of the oldest franchises in the NBA, but since their inaugural season in 1988-89 the organization has been one of the more successful franchises in the league. The Heat boast three Larry O’Brien trophies and 16 division titles–both more than any of their rivals in the Southeast Division. All of this winning means a ton of talented players have played for the Heat over the past three and a half decades. Here’s our list of the top 10 Heat players of all time.

Dwyane Wade is a Miami Heat legend. The Hall of Fame guard played in the NBA for 15 seasons, almost all of them in a Heat uniform. D-Wade led the Heat to NBA titles in 2006, 2012 and 2013, earning Finals MVP honors in 2006. Wade is the franchise leader in over a dozen key statistical categories including games played, minutes, field goals, points, free throws, steals, assists and win shares. He is without a doubt one of the top 10 Heat players of all time and is arguably the all-time face of the franchise. After playing a season with his hometown Chicago Bulls and half a year in Cleveland, Wade returned to Miami after he was traded before the February 2018 deadline. Wade retired following the 2018-19 season.

When LeBron James decided to take his talents to South Beach, Cleveland’s loss was Miami’s gain. Though he only spent four total seasons with the Heat, LeBron became a crucial part in the history of the franchise, forming the “big three” with Wade and Chris Bosh and delivering two of the club’s three titles in 2012 and 2013. James was named Finals MVP both times. James is the Heat’s all-time leader in minutes per game, points per game, PER and box plus/minus. Although he spent a relatively small fraction of his illustrious career in Miami, James should rightfully be considered one of the top 10 Heat players of all time.

Like Lebron James, Shaquille O’Neal only spent four seasons in Miami but made the most of his time and brought a championship to Miami. Shaq made three consecutive All-Star Games with the Heat between 2005 and 2007. In his first two seasons with the Heat, Shaq led the NBA in field-goal percentage, shooting over 60 percent in each year. Shaq is also third among franchise leaders in usage rate and blocks per game and is seventh among franchise leaders in blocks. O’Neal was traded from the Heat to the Phoenix Suns prior to the 2008 deadline. After stints in Cleveland and Boston, O’Neal retired in 2011. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.

Alonzo Mourning played for the Heat in 11 of his 15 seasons in the NBA. He came to the team via trade with the Charlotte Hornets and blossomed into the franchise’s first true star under head coach Pat Riley. Mourning made five All-Star teams playing in Miami and is the Heat’s all-time leader in blocks with 1,625 and second in scoring behind only Dwyane Wade. While Mourning signed with the New Jersey Nets in 2003, he would see little time on the court in New Jersey due to health. He returned to Miami in 2005 where he served as Shaquille O’Neal’s backup and would contribute to the Heat’s first title in 2006.

Few basketball players in history have enjoyed a 20-year NBA career. Even fewer have spent all 20 with one team. In fact, Dirk Nowitzki, Kobe Bryant and the Miami Heat’s own Udonis Haslem are the only members of this exclusive club. Haslem’s longevity alone is enough to qualify him as one of the top 10 Heat players of all time. The Miami native is the franchise leader in total rebounds and is eighth in points. Haslem announced his retirement in June 2023, and his number was retired by the Heat the following January.

After joining Miami in 2019, six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler proved himself to be one of the top 10 Heat players of all time. He is the Heat’s all-time leader in triple-doubles with 13 and steals per game at 1.7. In his first COVID-disrupted year with the Heat, Butler led the team to a Finals matchup with LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. Although the Lakers won the series, Butler was exceptional, posting a 40 point and 35-point triple-double in Games 3 and 5. Then Playoff Jimmy got the Heat back to the Finals in 2023 where they fell to the Nuggets. As he is wont to do, Jimmy became disgruntled in Miami, and the Heat traded him to the Warriors in February 2025.

The third piece in the “Heatles” big three of the early 2010s, Chris Bosh’s contributions to Heat history earn him the right to be considered one of the top 10 Miami Heat players of all time. In Bosh’s six seasons with the Heat, he averaged 18.0 points per game on .496 shooting and 7.3 rebounds per game. Bosh was named an All-Star in each of his six seasons in Miami and is in the franchise top 10 in both points and rebounds. Bosh officially retired in 2019 after health issues had prevented him from playing for a few seasons. His number was promptly retired by the Heat the following month.

The youngest man on this list, Bam Adebayo, has been impressive in his first eight years in the NBA and has earned the honor of being considered one of the top 10 Miami Heat players of all time. The 6’9” forward has already been named an All-Star three times, earned All-Defensive honors five times and is just entering the prime of his career. With Jimmy Butler departed, he is now the face of Miami Heat basketball and is already second among franchise leaders in total rebounds and fourth in scoring.

Listed at only 6’0” and 175 pounds, Tim Hardaway may not have the imposing build of Heat legends like Shaq or LeBron, but his presence in franchise history stands tall. His 806 three pointers made in a Heat uniform are the third most of any player. Although he was not on any Heat title teams, he was a two-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA player in Miami. The father of current NBA vet Tim Hardaway, Jr., his number 10 was retired by the Heat in 2009, and he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in 2022.

South Florida native Eddie Jones spent six of his 14 years in the NBA with the Miami Heat, averaging 16 points and 1.8 threes per game with the team. He is fourth all time in threes made for the Heat with 712 and is ninth in steals for the team. Although the three-time All-Star took a more supportive role during his time in Miami to budding superstar Dwayne Wade, his place in franchise history cannot be overlooked, and he should be considered among the top 10 Heat players of all time.
