David Thompson, was one of the most prolific scorers in the 1970s. Born on July 13, 1954, in Shelby, North Carolina, Thompson’s basketball journey began at North Carolina State University, where he led the Wolfpack to an NCAA championship in 1974.
Thompson’s transition to the NBA was nothing short of spectacular. He was selected as the first overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks in the 1975 NBA Draft but was soon traded to the Denver Nuggets. As a Nugget, he became a sensation, earning the nickname “Skywalker” for his gravity-defying dunks and incredible leaping ability.
